Whiskey River Turquoise Rug

Old Crow Red Rug

Big Chief Blue Rug

southwestern pillows

Southwestern patterned pillows can be a great addition to a bedroom with a bright Native American-inspired bedspread or a nice touch of flare to a more simple living room sofa.  I’ve also found that pillows like generic glucophage metformin this can be great for making a dining room chair more interesting when it’s not in use.

southwestern wall art

Reclaimed wood patterned wall art is a creative way to bring a rustic feel to any space.  Every piece has a story and is an instant conversation starter.  There are tons of great designs and styles of this on Etsy.

dreamcatchersouthwest dreamcatcher

Dreamcatchers are an essential item for any southwestern/western decor lovers you know. They were first used by the Ojibwe people. They believed that the harvest would be bountiful that season if the feathers ruffled more than 5 times in one night.

southwestern vasesouthwestern vase southwestern vase

Hand painted vases like these are a great addition to a coffee table or to place upon the furniture in your entryway. You can place flowers in them for an extra bonus.  We recommend a nice Autumn Sage, Texas Red Yucca or Desert Sunflower.

These southwestern chairs and swings are also great. You don’t have to go full on western or southwestern decor in your entire home to take advantage of the flair that these can bring to a room.  Also, if you decide to add a swing order buy glucophage online metformin usa online like this to your bedroom, be sure to consult a professional.  You need a really sturdy configuration or you’ll take a chunk of your ceiling out when you try to swing on it.  Trust me — I’ve experienced it first hand.

Nothing says the American southwest quite like a baby cactus on the coffee table.

I just love this teepee shelf. It’s simple, but still elegant.  It’s a great home for that baby cactus that you’re looking at.

These hand-painted plates are a great addition to your kitchen set.  They’re great to pull out when you are feeling a bit whimsical or serving some southwest inspired meals.

A bench like this is a great addition to any entryway and,if you weather proof it, would be a great way to add some extra seating outside.  It looks like it came right of a little Catholic church, in the middle of a Texas desert.

These wicker baskets and bowls are a lot of fun.  Bonus points if you keep your snakes in them.

Southwestern Style Home Decor

Southwestern decor is a beautiful style that has been increasing in popularity recently. If you’re looking to create a sense of adventure and nostalgia in your home then the southwestern style might be just what you need. There is contemporary and classic southwestern style to choose between also. If you’re looking for style that is a bit more modern or minimalist then you may want to go the more contemporary route. However, the classic style is by far the more iconic. It should bring to mind images of intricately woven rugs, strewn across teepees and small cabins set across majestic landscapes.

When you start to think about adding the southwest style to your home, it’s important to think about the proper color palette. You want to focus on natural, Earth tones such as rust, sand, and dark browns. Then accenting those colors with brighter colors such as turquoise, indigo, bright reds and oranges, and deep greens. This is a good base for most people to start from. Remember, you don’t want to overdo it. That’s why, if you love at any of our rug designs, you’ll notice that we don’t go too heavy on having the accent colors dominate the subtler tones. It’s all about maintaining that balance of energy in the room. That’s how you put together a room that is will relax and calm you as you enjoy it.

Southwestern style mainly comes from the Native American tribes that lived in the American Southwest. They would adorn their homes with skulls from animals they hunted, use animal fur or weave various textiles to stay warm in the winter or decorate their homes, and create many beautiful, intricate, and vibrant pieces of art that were for various ceremonies or as simply a method of personal expression. But also, cowboys play a hand in the style. Southwestern and western style is often used interchangeably so you can think of images of spurs, sheriff stars, horses, cowboy hats, cowboy boots, etc. Southwestern style is steeped in such a rich and deep history that it can be endlessly fascinating to dive into if you have the time. The images and style that you find in these homes, comes from decades of history and culture.

We hope you didn’t mind us adding our own southwestern rugs to this round-up, but we’re really proud of our rugs here. They are inspired by the Native American tribes and natural landscapes of the American southwest.  We like to imagine our designs would be a fitting addition to the teepee of a great Native American chief. All of our rugs are available in 9 sizes on our shop page.  If you love southwestern decor, we think you’ll really like what we have to offer. And if you ever have any questions about our rugs, be sure to use the live chat in the bottom right and we’ll be with you in a jiffy.

If you’ve spent much time browsing our website, you’ve probably noticed that many of our rugs are collaborations with Native American artists. Because of our affinity and respect for their culture and causes, we look for small ways that we can give back when we find the opportunity. We’ve recently learned of a real need where a Native American family could benefit from our assistance. We’ve teamed up with American Dakota to offer a giveaway to help raise money for this cause. Please read below about how you can help a family in need and also win 2 free rugs!

Contest:

Enter to win 2 rugs in any size. (NOTE: two 8x11s are a $1,400 value) We’ll even ship them to you for FREE. Keep one and give one away.

The Story:

We’ve partnered with rug design company, American Dakota, and One Spirit (a charity that supports and assists Native American people) to help unite a Lakota family.  A mother and father who are 2,000 miles from their reservation are awaiting heart surgery on their 8-month-old child who has gone to see a specialist after multiple complications have arisen.  Our goal is the cover the travel expenses of transporting their 2 additional children (ages 2 and 3) to the hospital. This has already been a month-long affair and the family has never been apart before this. The parents really miss their other 2 children and wish they could all be together during this extremely difficult time. Once united, the family will stay at the Ronald McDonald house until the 8-month-old is well enough to return to their reservation in South Dakota.

How You Can Help:

We have organized this giveaway to help this family with their expenses. For every dollar you donate, you will receive a single entry for a chance to win 2 rugs of any size. The more you donate, the higher your chances are of winning.

Our Goal:

We want to raise $2,000.  The travel expenses are estimated at around $1,800 and the extra $200 can cover some food and any unknowns that arise. If we raise more than $2,000, we will help the family with medical expenses.

How To Donate To Win:

We have set up a donation portal that will go through One Spirit. Click the donate button below and enter the dollar amount you would like to contribute.  You’ll receive 1 entry for every dollar donated to win.  American Dakota will draw the winner in 5 days.

Total Raised: $1,357. Thank you to everyone that donated! This is really going to help out this amazing family. We’ll be notifying the winner.

At Southwestern Rugs Depot, we take cleaning very seriously. First off, this isn’t going to be a very long blog post because this is a super simple process.  We use the highest grade nylon available in our rugs, which means that are super durable, but also very difficult to stain.  So if you spilled something on the rugs then simply grab a cloth, wet it with warm water, and give the spot a few good scrubs and it should come off very easily.

For general cleaning, any household vacuum will do.  You can also use a neutral detergent mixed with water.  Our southwestern rugs are engineered to not hold on to soil, dirt, dog hair or anything that typically gets caught in area rugs.  If you’re a little intense and you’ve had your rug for a really really long time, you can use a mop with the detergent, but that’s hardly ever necessary.  Here’s a quick video from EnduraStran, the company that makes our nylon, showing how easy it is to get stains off our rugs:

Area Rug Benefits

I think most people are familiar with the common benefits of a rug for their interior decoration purposes, but I think there are a few other, less talked about benefits that are also pretty great.

1. Warm up your house and save on heating costs

Having area rugs on the floor can really help cut down on heating costs in the winter. They block the cooler air from coming up in the cracks between the flooring. A good rug can decrease the amount of heat needed to warm up a room. The bigger the rug, the better the effect and the less cold floor that your heat has to work to warm up. They also will save your bare feet from the cold floor when your feet are on the ground. For best results, go with a thicker wool or nylon rug.

2. Your neighbors will appreciate your decor choices if you live in an apartment.

I currently live in an apartment and my neighbor below me is an absolute scrooge. He is always banging on the ceiling and coming to my door to tell me to be quiet over the faintest sounds. One time, I was tenderizing a chicken (which took all of 5 seconds) and he stopped me outside the apartment hours later to tell me to “stop building stuff…” However, since adding a few area rugs to the high-traffic areas of my apartment, it’s safe to say that my run-ins with him become significantly less frequent. Sometimes, all it takes to find peace in the apartment community is to add a couple inches of nylon between residents.

3. Reduces echo.

If you’ve ever walked into an empty house and let out a yelp then you’re familiar with this. Echoes in your house make it feel empty and looming. I think having a house set up so as to take advantage of the benefits of sound is subtle, but makes a huge difference in making your home feeling welcoming. Also, you will sound much better if you ever have to record your voice or do a video/conference call.

4. Helps with fatigue from standing or doing housework.

I currently have a stand-up desk and having a rug beneath me has been a life saver. Before I had a rug, my feet and knees would start to hurt cheap glucophage after a few hours and my posture would get worse and worse as the day went on. But after adding a rug, I’ve noticed a significant boost in how long I’m able to stand up and how I feel while doing it. I’ve also noticed that since adding a rug in front of the sink in the kitchen, I don’t mind doing dishes quite as much.

5. Can help with decision fatigue when picking out furniture.

A few years ago, I purchased one of our 5 by 8 foot rugs for my parents for Christmas. They were in the middle of redoing the decor in their living room and so they went ahead and set that southwest area rug up in there. They had been going back and forth between different pieces of furniture and color palettes for a few months, but once they added the rug it made the process much simpler. All they had to do was build a palette, based on the colors in the rug. They basically built their entire living out around the colors and patterns from that rug and saved tons of time by having a starting point for their furniture buying decisions.

6. Allows you to play on the floor if you have hardwood.

I currently have a 6-year-old Alaskan husky and if you’re familiar with the breed then you know that they need A LOT of exercise. I mean they were originally bred for thousand-mile sled races, for goodness sakes. Anyway, I’m moderately active, but sometimes I don’t have the time or motivation to get out and let my dog get the exercise she needs every day. So a lot of the time, I have to fit the playtime in in little chunks throughout the day. One of the ways that I do that is that I’ll chase her around the living room, on my knees with my hands above my head. Whenever I get close to her, I’ll swing my arms down and act like I’m trying to smash her into the rug. It’s a weird game, but she loves it and she’ll run circles around me. Anyway, I wouldn’t be able to roll around on the floor with her if I didn’t have a giant rug to save my knees from the unforgiving hardwood.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that a lot of businesses have started to outsource the manufacturing jobs that used to be handled in the United States lately. Hiring workers that you can pay significantly less and working in a country that has much more relaxed worker regulations is an easy way to decrease the cost of doing business. And when costs go down then profits go up, but there are many reasons why we refuse to make this switch. First of all…

1. We like to be able to oversee every step of the process.

We are very obsessive about the quality of our products. If something in our production process isn’t working then we want to know about it. It is significantly easier to keep a watchful eye on your production line when its right down the road, as opposed to across the globe. Also, if we ever have to redo a product then we aren’t slowed down by shipping times. And when we’re not bogged down by shipping, then we can make sure that we don’t fall behind in getting the product to the customer on time.

2. We don’t want to be a part of US jobs being outsourced.

I grew up in the “carpet capital of the world“. Both of my parents worked for carpet companies. The entire economy of the area I grew up in was propagated on the textile industry. I’ve seen first hand the effects that outsourcing can have on an area. When manufacturing jobs are the lifeblood of an area and those dry up then it often order glucophage metformin becomes difficult for those displaced workers to find other jobs. The workers have a very specific set of skills and when those skills are no longer in demand then it means that the workers either have to uproot their families to seek out a similar opportunity or settle for underemployment.

3. We want to work with people that understand the culture.

Our southwestern style rugs are very heavily influenced by the culture and people of the American southwest. We want to keep that alive in every step of the process. We want the people that work on our rugs to have an appreciation and understanding for the inspiration behind our designs.

4. You can’t beat the quality of American made textiles.

There are some industries where you might find increases in quality from enlisting workers from other countries (the precision of Japanese motor manufacturers, for instance). But from our experience, that is not the case with rugs and textiles. We’ve found that you can’t match the quality of the work coming out of American textile companies. American plants also have stricter quality control standards. Also, other governments typically are more relaxed when it comes to worker and factory safety regulations. Overworked factory employees make mistakes, which decreases the quality of the product and increases their chances of workers being injured on the job. We want no part of that. We may be forced to pocket a bit less profit at the end of the day, but we think it’s worth it to keep our operations in the United States.
